Removing press-on nails should be a slow process. Pulling or forcing them off can damage the press-on and may also stress the natural nail. The correct removal method depends on the adhesive you used.
Before you begin
Check the instructions for your specific press-on set and adhesive. Adhesive tabs and nail glue do not always require the same removal process, so use the method recommended by the manufacturer.
If you used adhesive tabs
Warm water can help soften many adhesive-tab applications. Soak your fingertips in comfortably warm, soapy water and allow time for the adhesive to loosen. Gently test the edge of the press-on. If it resists, continue soaking rather than forcing it.
If you used nail glue
Follow the removal instructions provided with the glue. Some products may require a dedicated remover. Do not pry the nail upward when the bond is still strong.
Work slowly from the edges
Once the adhesive has softened, gently work around the outer edges. Stop if you feel strong resistance. The safest approach is patience rather than pressure.
Clean the press-ons before storing
If the style is suitable for reuse and remains undamaged, remove residual adhesive according to the product instructions and store the nails in a clean, dry place. Reuse depends on the condition of the nail and the adhesive method used.
Give your natural nails a break when needed
After removal, wash and dry your hands. If your nails feel tender or look damaged, avoid immediately applying another set. If you have persistent pain, swelling or another nail concern, seek advice from an appropriate health professional.
